Below is how "Greg" blossomed into a world traveler and will bring you up to date on all the places he's visited, the people he's met and the lives he's touched. Every person that touches that bottle has learned about colon cancer and that's my mission. Janet
This jar represents the memory of Greg Kelley, a way of remembering why he died; a symbol of hope.
One day the jar was sitting on Mom's kitchen counter and I decided to
dress it up, Mom found a pair of sunglasses and Al and myself
started looking for props. It was a great healing
experience for all of us; a "star"
The following photograph's have evolved from 2002 to present. The people who have "borrowed Greg" have become more and more creative. It's been a great way to spread the word on colon cancer and the importance of getting screened.
If you'd like to bring Greg on a trip here are the rules: 1. You must take digital photographs (or convert 35mm to digital.) 2. Any props (I encourage this) that you use in Greg's pictures become part of his luggage and are the sole property of Greg. 3. Greg must have a great time! 4. He must be returned!
If you bring Greg on a vacation and someone asks what the jar is, tell them " This jar represents Greg Kelley, who died at the age of 48 from colon cancer, visit his website for more information." This brings awareness to the words Colon Cancer and hopefully the"someone" who visits this page becomes more educated about COLON CANCER through my links and schedules an appointment with their doctor. If you are under the age of 50 and have family history, talk to your doctor about scheduling a colonoscopy. if he says no, find another doctor! Don't procrastinate about it! Just think- all these pictures of "Greg" on just this one page don't represent the amount of people that have died from colon cancer, MANY of them young and MANY unnecessarily.
Order your Colonoscopy today ! Early detection ~ best prevention. "It could save your guts.....no ifs, ands, or butts!" (thanks for that one ECHN) )

Greg had a window seat, snacks and I even let him listen to music. Florida ~ February 2004 I think Greg's feeling very comfortable in his travels now, he even had more fun than me! He actually is back to his old self now; he had some wild adventures and met some "interesting" people. Wherever he goes, he's sure to tell them he's the Colon Cancer Afterlife Spokesperson. Golfing with Janet Enjoying the beach in Panama City Captain Greg ~ his various sea adventures
Tyndall Air Force Base - Panama City, Florida Preparing for Spain June 20~June 29, 2004
Greg was quite anxious today (6/19) about his upcoming trip to Spain. He hopped into Lyn's purse and prepared himself for the long flight. I'm sure he's dreaming about the gorgeous Senoritas he plans on meeting in Madrid. Danielle thinks Mom is "sick" for bringing Greg along, but everyone else can't wait for the anticipated photograph's. Hope Lyn and Greg have a great journey! ADIOS VIA CONDIOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Hope I got that right) July 4th 2004 Tolland, CT Greg hung out on Janet's deck and anxiously awaited a family 4th of July party. He partied until the wee hours of the night. Patriotic Greg..... The First Annual Greg Kelley Memorial Home-Brew Party July 10, 2004 Coventry, CT On July 10th, Doug (Floyd) Johnson has us to his house to observe the making of his first "Egg" Commemorative Ale. He took Greg's award winning brew and slightly tweaked the recipe. Several of the Hop River Home Brew Members attended the party and we tasted many of their home brews. Cameron Chris Janet Lyn Tracy Vegas and California Aug. 16~23, 2004 Greg had the pleasure of traveling with Gerry and Fran Gallo on a trip to visit her cousin Joanne and her friend Kathy in Orange, CA. Their first and second stop on their journey were Vegas and Hoover Dam. Kudos' to Gerry and Fran for the great job at obeying the rules; Greg had a great time! VEGAS Greg raised holy hell in Vegas and I'm not sure how much money he won. He had his own room (#1766) in the Golden Nugget and ventured out to many casinos, spent some time with a couple mermaids and attempted to enter the Glitter Gulch. Hoover Dam Gerry and Fran (and Greg) took a Greyline Tour of Hoover Dam with what they said was the most informative, happy and lover of life guide, Carmel, she even had her picture taken with Greg! Orange, California Greg made himself right at home in Fran's cousin Joanne's house and enjoyed all the amenities she had to offer. Joanne and her friend Kathy treated him like a King. He spent many hours just relaxing and enjoying the view from Joanne's back yard, I think it reminded him of home. Oh Boy, where do I begin. Most of the pictures are self-explanatory and wild. Gerry and Fran let Greg go overboard......geez. He certainly was a Hollywood celebrity and fit right in. It took him hours to stroll the Walk of Fame on Sunset Blvd. I love the picture of him with William Shatner. Ronald Reagan Presidential Library~ Simi Valley, CA Gerry, Fran, Joanne and Kathy brought Greg to Simi Valley and Greg viewed the burial site of our former president, saw the first piece of the Berlin Wall taken down and sat in his oval office. President Reagan sure has a beautiful view of the countryside from his tomb. Greg enjoyed the view too. Laguna Beach, California Another wild adventure for Greg! Great food at Las Brisas and The Breeze, a cold beer at Laguna Beach Brewing Co. and some sunshine made for a great day. Fran had to keep Greg from falling off the table when he checked out the gal sitting behind him; Greg envisioned her thong as a possible sling shot and hoped to be the recipient. He souvenir shopped and even test-drove a car. He spent the ladder part of the day grabbing some rays with Joanne.
Disneyland.......over Thanksgiving 2004
Gerry and Fran Gallo brought Greg on another great trip visiting Disney, Epcot, Big River Brewing Company on the boardwalk and Animal Kingdom. BIG RIVER BREWING COMPANY Greg was honored to be the first Colon Cancer Afterlife Spokesperson to receive a personal tour of Big River Brewing Company. Having been a Master Brewer himself, he really would have loved this tour if he was still alive. (Greg if you only knew...) Head Brewer Rich Michaels showed Gerry and "Greg" the copper vats to drool for. Greg was meticulous at keeping his copper kettles clean and Rich would've scored a "10 " in Greg's eyes. Rich Gave Greg a souvenir glass, matches and his business card. Thanks for being a good sport Rich. Christmas AT JANET'S 2004 Ho Ho Ho January 29, 2005 Greg crashed Tracy's 40th
birthday party. Daytona 500 ~ February 2005 The Martel family attended the Daytona 500 and requested Greg's presence. They did a great job! Bobby Hamilton, Jr. was a good sport and thought it was a great way to spread the word on colon cancer.
February 28th, 2005 Viewing the World Series Trophy!
Israel May 17 ~ 24, 2005 Greg is ready with his yarmulka (kippah) on, and luggage packed. He is attending the graduation of a co-worker's (Pippin) daughter, who's graduating from medical school; he will be arriving in Tel-Aviv. Pippin (pictured above with Greg), lost her mother to colon cancer; her mom was 39 years old. This is one more reason that you should have a colonoscopy if colon cancer runs in your family! If there is family history, you shouldn't wait until you're over 50. Colon cancer is a very treatable disease if you catch it early! Early Detection ~ Best Prevention! EMAIL UPDATE....... "HI: Jan, finally have a computer to send you a note about our travels. WE have made a whirlwind tour of Israel. So far we've been to Tel Aviv, Nazareth, Tiberius, The Dead Sea, Jericho, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Be'er Sheva. Greg has been to all these places with us and has a permanent resting place at several of these locations in some wonderful places, ie. The Jaffa Gate entrance into the old city of Jerusalem, The sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea, The Church of the Nativity where Jesus was born, and he saw Laura Bush at the Al Alaska Mosque (the dome of the Rock, Islam's holiest place on earth) and had his picture taken with her in the background as she was leaving the mosque, at least that is what I hope to see when I get a close up of the place she was walking as she was leaving (we just escaped being run over by secret service and the Jerusalem police as they were containing a couple of guys that were yelling and swearing at her.) Unfortunately, I didn't bring the wire for uploading the pics from the camera so you'll see the shots when we return. We didn't have time to leave Israel, so there are no pic's of the Sinai. But I think you'll be pleased to see the places we visited . Greg was a hit with everyone he met and has a whole new set of international contacts, including a man from Tibet. We had dinner one night at a cool place called the Borderline Cafe in Jerusalem. We'd all had a few too many margaritas and Greg, wild and crazy guy that he is, actually got picked up, you'll see the shots, nothing too risqué, he was a gentleman. So, I'll call you when I return, wish you were here, see you soon, Pip, Cody and Greg"
Follow-up by Janet "Greg a gentleman?" Maybe because he is/was in the holiest place on earth! Pip and Cody did a great job spreading the word on colon cancer in Israel. Everyone there was very receptive and thought it was a great idea. Greg meets Dr. Cody Larry Sanders "BLIND" date for dinner (after everyone had a few Margaritas.) Greg with Dr. Cody and Dr. Melissa ~ May 2005 graduates of Ben Gorion University Negev in Be'er Sheva Leave it to Greg to find himself between two female medical school grads!

A magnificent view of the Jordan Valley, this is the traditional "high mountain" where Jesus was tempted by Satan during his forty days and nights of fasting and meditation in the wilderness following his baptism by John the Baptist in the nearby Jordan River. Bethlehem Church of the Nativity The Colossal Colon® June 2, 2005 Buckland Hills Mall ~ Manchester, CT Janet was excited about the opportunity to bring Greg to see and be a part of "The Colossal Colon®" being sponsored by Eastern Connecticut Health Network. This was just another way of being a part of the "colon experience" This colon is a life size reproduction of the human colon created by a colon cancer survivor, Molly McMaster. Molly was only 23 when she was first diagnosed with colon cancer. You can read more about her story at www.colossalcolon.com.When Greg went into the hospital for a ruptured appendix, the surgeons found colon cancer in his cecum. The colon begins in the right lower part of the abdomen, adjacent to the appendix, an area that is called the cecum, right colon or even sometimes the ascending colon. The following photograph's were taken in "The Colossal Colon®" and show you what a colorectal surgeon or gastroenterologist can see during the colonoscopy procedure. Greg wanted to see what it was like to be in a colon so Janet and Lyn were able to let him
experience this first hand. ECHN's Cancer Survivors Day® The Colonnade ~ Glastonbury, CT June 5, 2005
Greg Meets Molly McMaster Janet brought Greg to meet Molly McMaster, creator of the Colossal Colon® where she was a guest speaker at the event. Molly shared her personal story and the importance of younger people having colonoscopies at an earlier age if there is family history. Molly loves Greg's site as it's one more way to spread the word about colon cancer. Molly had a deep conversation with Greg sharing information about her website as well as learning about his. July 3, 2005 Independence Day Celebration - Tolland, CT Today was a wonderful celebration with many cousins attending this party, some we haven't seen in 20 years. While shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop, Mom found Greg (aka ..Egg ) a friend to hang out with during the party; she knew this bloated blonde would be a wonderful weekend date. Greg's site was brought up during today's party. One cousin has had her colonoscopy and one KNOWS she has to "make the appointment." I was happy to hear that family has taken this issue seriously and know the importance of getting screened; a must with family history! Greg's web address has been given out to many new people to spread the word.... Family photo's of this day are on the family page. July 17, 2005 Manitou Springs City Hall-Manitou Springs, Colorado First Annual Greg Kelley Cancer Benefit
A huge success.....about $5,000 collected and donated to the Cancer Center of Colorado Springs. Several local artists donated their work for a silent auction. Galen donated all his hair to the "Locks of Love" organization along with another woman who donated 16" of hers. Dr's. David Headley, D. Scott Brantley, H. Sue Kim and Timothy J. Murphy spoke on different types and treatments of cancer. The best speaker was Dr. Timothy Murphy who being the "new kid on the block " decided to speak on beer rather than emphasizing a total lecture on cancer. He did a power point presentation on the different beers of the world and appeared quite versed on the subject. There were three different kinds of beer donated to the event. A funny thing happened with the keg that Antler's Hilton donated-
the keg was embossed with Kelley Brewing Corp. on the
top! The Winner - YUM! Greg with......... Dr. Headley Dr. Murphy Dr. Brantley Dr. Murphy's presentation........ Greg

July 18,
2005 ~ Greg's Birthday Besides the fact that it was Greg's birthday, today was a very special day for Dylan and Merry. Galen and friends started their annual hike up the peak at around 5:00 am and arrived at the top to witness Dylan propose to Merry at 5:30 pm. Janet held Greg so he could join in on this celebratory event in a group picture. See the family photo page for a sequence of pictures! October 8, 2005 ~ Greg Crashes Debbie Girard's 50th Birthday Party Good old Greg ~ never misses a party! He was excited when her overheard that Janet was hosting a surprise

Colon Cancer was discussed with the curious individuals who dared to ask the Gallo's what "Greg" was. Greg and the Gallo's visited ik kil eco park, Chichen Iza and hung out at the Golden Crown pool. Thanks Gerry and Fran; you are the very best hosts that truly spread the word about colon cancer and have a blast doing it. Greg's new friends A very good night.......... Feb 20 ~ March 1, 2006 Legaspi City, Philippines
Greg had the privilege of traveling with Carol and Arial Bohnet to Legaspi City to visit Kim (daughter/sister) where she's working with the Peace Corps. They slept in Kim's Nipa Hut which is 12x12 in size, you can see the Mount Mayon volcano in the background. Carol passed out some of Greg's business cards to curious onlookers who saw "Greg". Thanks Carol.....
March 3 through April ? Galveston Texas ~ Newport Oregon VIA the Panama Canal
Greg's whirlwind 2006 travels haven't stopped. Captain Mark Bull of Fort Myers Florida brought along Greg for his sea adventure and made him First Mate. Greg is taking this job very seriously, even dressing the part and putting on more mature glasses. Captain Bull has been hired to bring the Lady Law to Oregon by the owner. The Lady Law is a Pacific Dungeness Crab boat the catches those wonderful creatures for us to pay and arm and a leg for. It has been in Galveston being resized due to strict Alaskan laws that pertain the the maximum size a king crab vessel can be. I can't imagine any trouble that Greg can get into with a small crew on the open sea.
Here are some pictures of the Lady Law in December where it is being refitted in Galveston. Well, I missed the canal pictures. It was extremely difficult to get an exact time on the trip through the canals. "Bumps " and other extenuating circumstances happen..... June
"Mark and Greg left for their adventure on March 3rd. After an unexpected extra 23 days in the

May 1st : "They made it! The boat arrived in Newport Oregon around 7:00 this morning. Apparently they had quite the bumpy ride over the last week. Greg completed 2 months aboard the boat, traveled 5437 nautical miles (approx 6000 statute miles), and went through 3 gales. He passed through or by Mexico, Cuba, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Columbia, Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala..

Greg
Janet and Al went to New York City for the weekend and decided to bring Greg. Amongst the places they visited were Times Square, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero. The highlight of Greg's visit was sitting on the desk of NBC's Today Show set. Special thanks to the cameraman for allowing me this opportunity; I gave him one of Greg's business cards.
Ireland ~ October 9th ~ October 18th Greg will be arriving in Shannon Ireland on October 10th. Mom made him a special Irish bowtie. His new attire is quite fitting for Ireland right down to the cap! Hit a hole in one spreading the word on colon cancer Greg! |
